Proptech Pop-up Australia 2019

The Who

At last count 37 Australian and international protech businesses have committed to coming along to the first #proptechpop event on 1 June.

We are pretty wrapped so we made a little video to celebrate.
And also encourage anyone sitting on the fence about whether they should attend to get their skates on as there are some great established and emerging companies who will be in the room.

With no set speaker program in place we are relying on the contributions of attendees to make it the #bestday for everyone.

Below is also an idea of some of the sessions that people have already put their hands up to lead and moderate.

We look forward to you joining the tribe and the conversations.

Funding for your future

PieLab Ventures is Australia’s only residential proptech VC fund. Founder, Chris Rolls will be leading a session discussing the funding options available to Australian proptech, the case for a residential proptech accelerator and what VC firms look for when funding. A roll-up your sleeves deep dive into funding for all.

U-S-A here we come!

BoxBrownie is one of Australia’s most successful proptech startups, and was part of the 2018 NAR REach program in the US. Pete Schravemade will be sharing the Box Brownie adventure of what’s it like to expand into the US, how the US accelerators work and what you need to know before applying

You’re not in this alone – ecosystems for product growth

The established tech players in real estate can be a great channel to market for new startups. Alister Maple-Brown from Rockend will moderate a session looking at the new ecosystems that established players like Rockend are creating and what integration looks like for your business.

Knowing the numbers – make it your #1 priority

Starting and growing a new business can be a real challenge. John Knight from Business Depot will kickstart the conversation on common mistakes startups make when scaling and how to avoid them. This will be a real opportunity for open forum sharing ala #failedfounder

Global resourcing and scale

What are your plans to scale your tech business? Is outsourcing a viable option? How do you manage the downsides to a virtual team? Aimee Engelmann from Beepo leads a discussion on how getting out of the day-to-day trench of ‘doing it all yourself’ is the only way up.

Have an amazing idea you want to share or session you would love to get off the ground?

Email your suggestion in and we will make sure it’s on the program voting list on the day. Sessions that get the most upvotes will be added to the agenda.

The Why

Proptech Pop-up Australia 2019 is a gathering of real estate innovators, tech heads, start-up founders, geeks and industry enthusiasts taking place on the Gold Coast.

The Proptech Popup is a unique event designed specially for innovators in real estate and property to help build our community and discuss the issues that affect us.

We’re taking a punt. We think it’s a good idea to get all these heads in a room and share experiences trying to launch products and get adoption in the Australasian marketplace.

There are some pretty smart folks working in proptech (often in a bit of isolation), getting them out from behind the screens, in some sunlight (NO… it burns!) and amongst their tribe before the two days of AREC will be like watering the plants before subjecting them to the full sun.

The What

Proptech Pop-up Australia 2019 has a semi structured format. Key industry innovators, thought leaders and successful proptech startups are being invited to host sessions on topics that have been identified as important to this new community. There is also time set for industry discussion.

The emphasis will be on knowledge sharing, collaboration, networking and problem solving. PowerPoints are absolutely banned! (But there will be lots of butchers paper and post-its).

Topics being nutted out for the agenda include:

  • Funding options for startups
  • Expanding into the US
  • How to scale
  • Business channel partnerships – pros and cons
  • Pain points in property – what needs solving
  • Does Australia need a proptech accelerator?
  • Data access and obligations
